About the Position
After initial training is completed, this working manager is responsible for supervising a field crew of 2 to 6 members to oversee their daily tasks. The SUE Field Manager has complete responsibility for staging the quality of the field effort. Train the field crew, delegate work, assign work areas, review, and check the crew’s quality of work and make sure the standard operating procedures are followed. Oversee projects were crew members are using electronic equipment to locate and mark gas, water, sewer, phone, power, and CATV lines. Monday – Friday, travel depending on where the work is located.
Pay is commensurate with experience. This is a non-exempt position, eligible for overtime.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Oversee field projects and the locators (TL’s and CTL’s) and surveyors assigned to those projects.
- Assign field crew’s work areas and daily tasks.
- Make sure to obtain utility records and required prints for each project before leaving the office.
- Review and check the field crew’s quality of work to make sure the standard operating procedures are followed.
- Help field crews troubleshoot hard-to-find locates.
- Review the crew’s field sketches at the end of each day, and provide comments to the tech to be addressed the next day.
- Make sure that the field crew is following the correct safety procedures.
- Responsible for the time sheets and expenses for the project.
- Help field crew’s troubleshoot hard to find locates.
- Responsible for tracking project budgets and maintaining close communication with the Regional Director.
- Follow the standard operating procedures.
- Correct use, technique, and maintenance of all field equipment.
- Follow the proper administrative procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills & Experience
Minimum Qualifications
- 5+ years of SUE experience and/or supervisory or project management experience
- HS Diploma or GED required
- Applicable Traffic Control Certification/willingness to attain
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test
- Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
Valued but not required skills and experience:
- Associates or bachelor’s degree in related field
- Advanced knowledge/proficiency of MicroStation, AutoCAD, or Open Roads
- Advanced Knowledge/proficiency of ArcGIS
- HAZWOPER40 certification
- OSHA10 or OSHA30
- Existing First-Aid/CPR certification
Job Requirements:
General
- Experience in technical utility locating
- Proficiency in the CI/ASCE 38-02 Standard/willingness to learn.
- Basic knowledge of surveying best practices.
- GPR Utility Locating knowledge and experience/willingness to learn.
- Map/plan reading proficiency.
- Understanding or Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) procedures/willingness to learn.
- Working knowledge of Excel, Word, PDF editor.
- Must have good communication skills (verbal and written), attention to detail and accuracy, and the ability to read and understand maps, records, and prints.
Physical
- Must be able to walk, bend, and lift up to 75 pounds.
- Must have the ability to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces.
- Must have the ability to see and respond to external influences, including hazardous environments.
- Must have the ability to wear personal protective gear correctly most of the day.
Work Environment
- Must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions
- Must be able to work in a confined space.
- Must be available to work overtime and some weekends & travel as needed.
